Most users are well aware that they should protect their smartphone or computer from attacks with a virus program. But apart from viruses and the like, the internet offers many other dangers, such as dangerous online challenges, cyberbullying and sexting. Children and young people in particular are not always able to correctly assess the consequences and can get themselves into unpleasant and even life-threatening situations. Children and young people in particular are not aware of the serious legal consequences of liking, posting or sharing comments or photos on social media. Objectively, older people are less likely to be victims of crime. However, senior citizens actually feel differently: they feel particularly at risk.
This makes it all the more important for Oberhausen police to educate older citizens about potential dangers and show them how to deal with them. Car break-ins on the rise
Theft from cars is a recurring theme. This varies greatly, sometimes the locking mechanism is tampered with, sometimes the window is simply smashed. Around 970 crimes are expected in Oberhausen in 2021, i.e. on average 3 vehicles are broken into every day in Oberhausen
How do I protect myself against this?
Not everyone has a garage available, and well-lit parking spaces are also rare. It is therefore difficult to protect yourself. However, you should make sure that there are no valuables in the vehicle, and above all that they are not left in plain sight so as not to create any incentive for thieves in the first place.
So-called keyless systems are easy for thieves to trick, they can influence the radio signal of the key and thus also open the vehicle and even start and steal it. This can be prevented by storing the key in a radio-proof cover when not in use.
